Welcome to Verena’s Gallery. This is a site where I post all my artworks. I am a professional watercolor artist with more than 19 years of experience. I am a self-taught artist who got into watercolors by reading and studying the books.
I was born and raised in England in the beautiful area of Suffolk County. My love for art started when I was a very young child. I studied the flowers and plants in my father’s garden. Using pencil and crayons, they were the first things I drew on paper. There is nothing like a true English garden to inspire a budding artist.
Soon enough, I got married and my husband and I moved to the US. Just like many women artists, I spent many years prioritizing my family. I had little to no time left to draw or paint. But I knew that someday I would get to paint again.
I started studying watercolor when I retired and moved to the East Coast of North Carolina. I started with only a few tubes of paint and a couple of sheets of paper at first. With a couple of brushes in hand and an art instruction book, I started painting. I still use the book as a reference today as it contains valuable information.
I prefer to work from photos so I can perfectly capture the play of sun and shadows. Contrasts between light and dark are very critical in the design of my paintings. I get a lot of pleasure from creating my artworks, and I hope people who look at them do too.
Throughout the years, I have received numerous awards from different organizations:
